Season 24

Sitting here looking back on the previous season fills me with only good thoughts, despite historically low water in the river (2,5 cubic) and blue sky with sunshine for almost two months in a row which made the fishing very difficult, but despite the poor river conditions we managed to do very well for our guests visiting us at Olderø, one of the reasons we had some proper fishing throughout the season was that our guides tried almost everything they have learned about Atlantic Salmon fishing and on top of that very unorthodox methods in terms of flies and gear setups to make the Salmon to take the fly.

I wanna say thank you to all our skilled guides and also I want to say thank you to all the fantastic guests we had last season for their always open mind and eager to learn new methods to catch salmon.

Totally we ended up in the second best year ever in the lodges history so we are proud and very happy about the result in a very different and difficult season.

The three biggest fish caught on our beats in 2024 were all over 120 cm, biggest fish a staggering 125 cm male salmon that gave the angler a hell of a fight, were both the guide and client thought the fish were of the hook several times, but they managed by helping each other to land this amazing fish which made everyone in the lodge go crazy.

125 cm pure evil…

Guide and client measures the beast…

This coming season will be a pink salmon year and we now have quite some experience with these fish, last time we had a pink salmon year was in 2023 were we had the best fishing in the lodges history, both in numbers and I sizes, so we are not concerned at all for the fishing it self, but more curious about what part the big amount of fry from the pink salmon will do for the ecologically state in the river and fjord when they leave for the ocean after they hatch in the river, one thing is for sure we saw a huge amount of smaller some seatrout in the lower part of the river, especially Olderø homepool was on every hightide loaded with smaller seatrout in the size of 20 - 30 cm last autumn, so maybe (hopefully) some of the fry of the pink salmon ends up as prey for the seatrout in the fjord and we will see some nice runs of larger seatrout in the seasons to come, our hope is that this will boost the seatrout fishing both in the fjord, but also in the river in the years to come.

We all look very much forward to see old and new clients again this summer, going to be extremely exciting to see what the river have in store for us this year, as we are out every day throughout the whole season therefore we get a good impression about what’s going on in and around the river and we are very optimistic as we saw a lot of really big fish moving into the river very late in the season and even after the season ended the 15th of september we saw some really big runs go through homepool in the beginning of october so for us it looked like some really large runs of big fish came very late in 2024, maybe due to the extreme low and warm water conditions of the river all July/August and September.

See image below taken in homepool in late september, there is a lot of fish in this picture almost so many you loose your count…
