Week 35 - Autumn is coming

We could finally welcome back the group of this week, after not being able to come last year due to travel restrictions.

The week started out with some salmon fishing and 1st of September we switch over to sea trout fishing which includes only floating line, 0,25 tippet, and size 10 hook flies or smaller. From this date there where local restrictions on the river, which hindered us from fishing above zone 1. Therefor we had buy day license to expand our water from Home pool and Holmen.

Fishing started out well with Anton lost a big one at Ratama and landed a good size grilse on the same day, and as he said it was his best day of salmon fishing ever. At the same day our polish friend Mateuz lost a big one at 6 to 6, and that put him on the right track. The day after Mateuz managed to land a perfect specimen, and what a wonderful sight to see such a perfect grilse in the river, which indicate the future of the salmon in Lakselv is good. After two lost ones, Bo Bengtsson landed a 78 cm fish at Bakery on the last day of salmon fishing.

On the first day of sea trout fishing, the autumn kicked in. The wind picked up and it got really cold, down to 6 degrees. The most skilled angler would have to work hard to present the fly. Bo Nilsen, a first time visiter at Olderø did manage to land a 80 cm fish at Holmen while he was hunting the sea trout. On the same session, Mateusz fished down on the same stretch of water seaching for the sea trout and woke up a nice 92 cm female salmon.

On the following day, Mateusz was on the spot again, and after a tricky fight with the 0,25 tippet, a big colorful lady of 96 cm. The next days the weather just got worse, but our guests kept at it. Thomas on his first fly fishing trip ever, lost a nice salmon but was overjoyed by the sea trout that took his fly 5 cast later. Per and Kåre landed some smaller sea trout and unfortuntly the big ones got away.

On the last session, Per who loves his Park Shrimp fly that is a good fly for sea trout, went to the lower part of Holmen and he hooked a silver 90 cm female and a couple of shiny sea trout. Again this just show that we get silver fish into the system late in the season.

Due to the local restriction, this will be our last week of the season, which is sadening for both Olderø and our guests, who was looking forward to their trip to this magnificent place.
