Experienced guide joins our team

Well-known fly fishing industry guide René Gerken has joined the team at Olderø Fly Fishing Lodge – a lodge on the Lakselv River in northern Norway, which is well regarded as a Mecca for serious salmon anglers.

René becomes Olderø’s new Camp Manager for 2019 after working at Olderø lodge as a part-time guide for the last four years with a lot of success. From May 1st 2019, René will be responsible for the lodge, staff and the fishing, so guests will get the best possible experience during their stay.

René comes from a job at Atlantik & Diana Fishing Tours in Denmark, where he was the leading sales agent and also worked as a tour leader to destinations around the world. At Atlantik he handled all the bookings, and René will continue to do the same work with future guests for the Olderø Fly Fishing Lodge. René also previously worked as a guide at the West Ranga River Lodge – which is operated by Olderø’s owner Heggøy Aktiv AS.

He is one of the few guides in Scandinavia who is a Master and Two-Handed casting instructor in the FFI. René also has five years of experience working in a tackle store in Denmark, where he attained a great knowledge of modern and traditional fly fishing tackle.

“There’s no doubt that Rene is the right person for the job, and I am very pleased that we now again have the ultimate staff set-up for the Olderø fly fishing lodge,” saidHenrik Kassow Andersen, CEO for Heggøy Aktiv AS. “I’ve worked with Rene before and besides being one of the most skilled fly fishers I know, he’s a highly talented guide with a great understanding of his costumers’ needs.

René himself added: “I am so happy that I have been given the chance to run a place like Olderø Fly Fishing Logde. I am very much looking forward to meeting our guests and I will do my best to help them to have a great experience when they visit us in pursuit of what most salmon anglers dream about: to catch the 40 pounder salmon or even bigger fish of a lifetime, which certainly is possible on our waters.
