Week 28 : Fishing is picking up
12th of July 2020 – This week we were very happy to welcome back Michael and Dan, and our new friends Cornelius with his dad Ulrik and Jesper with his wife Cathrine. For the first time in Olderø´s history, everybody in the group was from Denmark. During the whole week the salmon were running very fast through our beats in zone 1, and therefore we had to chase the fish when they went upstream. Sometimes we succeeded in finding them again further upstream on our many beats, and sometimes they just disappeared, but that is why it is called fishing and not catching.
In the beginning of the week we had 55 m3, so quite a lot of water, and we where fishing with sinking lines like Rio´s inter/sink3/Sink 6. Dan started the week with a bang, and in the first 24 hour of fishing he landed a 105 and 110 salmon at our beat Ratama. 19 year old Cornelius also started out strong with a 96 cm from Holmen, and that was his biggest fresh salmon ever. Jesper encounter a brutal female salmon on Ratama that took him 600 m. down the river, and he had the fish in his hand, but did not have control of the fish and in the ned the fish won the battle. We hope to see Jesper again, so he can take revenge.
After the great start, we had a couple of days with only 1 grilse. Even though the fishing was tough everybody was pleasured by the awesome food made by our 5 star chef Sacha.
The fishing picked up in the end of the week, and after some lost battles Michael finally landed a nice 102 cm salmon in Holmen and he was very happy. Same day, Dan was on the right spot again and this time he landed a 112 cm big male salmon on Ratama. The day could not have ended better, with the youngster Cornelius landed a 89 cm and 60 cm fresh fish within 20 min. at Ratama. Cornelius lost also a big fish later at Holmen, and it was actually his last cast of the week.
We hope that the fishing continue on this path and looking forward to accommodate new guests at the Olderø fly fishing Lodge.
