Week 29 : Zenul and Dima
Due to the circumstances we had rolled all our guests to next year, so this week we had only two guests. Dima came directly from Alta where had been fishing for a week, and Zenul was on his first real salmon trip. The expectations for the week was quite high due to a strong finish last week. As Zenul was a beginner the guides where teaching him how to fly cast with a two-handed rod and how to fish for salmon. Not that you can learn it in a week, but Zenul gave it all, and we can proudly say that his flies where covering the river in the end of the week. Dima on the other hand, is a very experienced atlantic salmon angler, who was looking for his 30 LBS after hunting the big one for more than 20 years around the world. On the third day the magic happened, hooking into two Lakselv monsters. First landing a brutal 17,5 kg and 119 cm male with long tailed sea lice salmon on Holmen after 30 min fight. The week was already a giant success for Dima, but in the afternoon he got into a hard battle at Bergkroken with a well proportion fish, that tipped the scale at 15,1 kg and only 106 cm long. What a day for Dima and what a day for Olderø.
Due to the big spring flood the river still had undiscovered secrets. In the middle of the week we suddenly saw that the lower part of the river started to colour up, and the visibility was only a foot. This of course effected our lower beats and made the fishing tough. Even in these difficult conditions Zenul managed to hook up with a couple of fish on Holmen, but unfortunately he did not keep them on.
The water level this week dropped from 45m³ to 30m³, so it is looking good for the up coming weeks.
It was a pleasure to have Dima and Zenul at the lodge, and hopefully we will see them back in the future here at Olderø fly fishing Lodge.
