Week 32/33 : The Jones family and friends

After the border opened up the 15th July, we where looking forward to host our very good friends The Jones family, Thomas and his 14 years old son. After the bad condition last week, we finally got some good fishing weather. Cloudy and falling temperatures and the river was stabile while dropping.

On the Tuesday dad Nigel went to Holmen and after 10 cast he hooked into a 7 kg fresh fish on his new Sage rod that he just bought the day before in our shop.

While everybody was fishing hard, Kenny Jones had a magical day in home pool. He started of with some grilse and finally he hooked a Lakselv monster and landed the biggest fish so far in home pool. The fish was 14,5 kg and with long tailed sea lice and it was Kenny´s biggest fish ever. Though fishing was good, the others struggled a little bit with loosing some good fish on all our beats. Specially our youngest angler for the season had two encounters, and unfortunately he lost them both. Christian did manage to land a nice fat grilse and the same did his dad Thomas. We are very pleased to see young fly anglers fishing our beats and we have no doubt that Christian will have a lot of changes in the years to come.

On the Friday Nigel was back on Holmen and this time he hooked into a 12 kg salmon on the same spot where he caught his fish earlier in the week.

Christian and Thomas went home and for the second week we where joined by Dan Christensen and Nils Jørgensen.

Dan and Nils started both out with catching a big fish over 10 kg. Nils went down to home pool after dinner and caught a 13,2 kg brutal fresh male in the lower part and Dan caught a similar size fish of 13,5 on our highest beat. Both fish where very fresh so motivation was high in the group and hopeful for more fish to move into the river.

Good friend of the Jones family, Nick had his first Lakselv salmon encounter but unfortunately lost the battle. A couple of days later Nick was back to the same spot with the same guide the same fly and the same cast and hooking another very nice fish and landing his personal best Atlantic Salmon of 9 kg.

In general these two weeks all had the chance for fish. Ryan the older brother lost a big one at Holmen and caught some grilse and Danny landed a nice fresh 6 kg fish in his second week and landed a couple of grilse.

Towards the end of the week, Dan went to Holmen and landed his personal best after many years of seaching for the big one. The fish was 117 cm and the scale stopped at 18,3 kg.

Big congratulations to all the personal best that have been caught, and hopefully many more to come in the future years.

Number of fish caught during the two weeks was 36 fish and 10 of them was over 10 kg.

We are very much looking forward to next week, and hopefully the fishing will continue.
