Week 36 : First week of the sea trout season
The week started out with still two days of the salmon season, so we took advantage of being able to fish with our usual setup before changing to floating line, 0,25 tippet and size 10 or smaller hook flies.
Emil who was the first one at the lodge went out alone and all the pools where full of fish, but in the beginning he could not hook any. After a while him and his guide went to Ratama and there he hooked into his biggest fish ever. The big fish jumped several times and made his reel work for the money. But after a short and intense fight the guide was able to land this massive 15,3 kg fish.
Inge who had never really casted a fly rod before, had the “beginners” luck, but got the hang of it pretty quick and after a while she caught here personal best salmon also at Ratama. The fish was a 9,3 kg female and gave here a good fight and put smile on her and her boyfriend.
This was two beautiful fish to end out the fantastic salmon season on Olderø, and gave a lot of moral to the group heading into the upcoming sea trout days at the river.
After changing to the sea trout tactics fishing got more tricky. This still did not effect the fishing as we continued to catch grilse. We also also started to hook into more sea trout on all our beats.
Towards the end of the week, John managed to land a 78 cm fresh salmon in our home pool on a size 10 double hook. On the last fishing day, Inge sadly lost a big fresh salmon at The Bakery, as the tippet was stocked to a rock in the river and the tippet broke. The guide estimated the fish to be more that 10 kg.
Trough out the whole week we landed plenty of sea trout, unfortunately we did not hook into a really big one. The water was dropping during the whole week, and now we have 11 m3.
Rain in the forecast could spice things up a bit for the upcoming week, where we are welcoming back our regular guests from Bergen.
