Week 37 : Last week of 2020
Week 37 is the last week of the sea trout season and we where welcoming our good friends from Bergen in Norway. Many of them had been here before, but for some of them it was the first time visiting Olderø. After last week, our expectations where not the highest as we could see that the rain the weather forecast promised last week never really appeared.
The week did not offer a lot of good offers on sea trout, it seemed like the river had gone on early vacation. All the anglers tried there best, within the restrictions of fishing floating line, thin leaders and small hook flies.
The efforts did result in some grilse and some small sea trout on all our beats. In between these Torill who was on here first fly fishing trip managed to land here first salmon and first sea trout ever. Unfortunately Torill lost a decent size fish after a short fight, but in the end of the day she was very happy for here first experience with a strong fish.
All in all the week was disappointing compared to last year final week, where the same group was visiting us with big succes.
On the last session of the season Morten and Mads went to Holmen. A couple of hours into the session, still no takes and they where running out of energy, but that changed the last hour. Morten was fishing in the bottom and Mads was fishing the top, and first it was Morten who caught a 10,4 kg female, which was his biggest fish for the season. By the time the guide had crossed back, Mads was almost at the end of his last round, and darkness was a pun us. All it took though was a perfect cast to the other side, and after one meter of sving a big wave in the surface after the fly. This resulted in a big hook up with super strong male, that was landed after a long jumpy fight. The was his personal best weighing 17 kg.
A story book ending to a fantastic season. We are very optimistic for the upcoming years and are looking forward to see you all on the river.
